OIG Hotline, I regret that it is not possible from my current vantage point to assess the credibility of the threats I receive.
It seems prudent to document those threats that could potentially result in serious harm to family members, and my intent in communicating specific threats I have received is always directed toward the protection of fundamental safety.
Having said that, I am cognizant of the FBI's objective of mischaracterizing "targets of interest" as individuals who lack credibility, stability or fundamental insight.
To add to the complexities, when an FBI affiliate is extending serious threats, the possibility exists that a degree of the threats represent real risk, while there remains an underlying objective to discredit the "target" of those threats. In general, it appears that certain far right FBI personnel are inclined to commit whatever crimes they can reasonably expect to "get away with."
