Allocation for the Support of American Journalism

OIG Hotline, over the last ten years, the United States has lost a myriad of journalistic sources that can be considered truly independent.  Many newspapers and news stations have been acquired by larger conglomerates only to be shuttered.  The result has been the closure of many local news sources and an increasing dearth of investigative journalism.

Let's do what we can to counter that development.

I would like to endow a separate foundation, the sole purpose of which is to nurture the founding of new independent news sources and to reward high level independent journalism as it appears in the public sphere.

These news organizations, while they may have a national reach, should be primarily focused on the highest quality of regional reporting possible.  Having said that, those independent journalists who are reaching to comprehend national or global impacts of emerging issues are to be recognized as critical to the public interest.

The press foundation should seek to give prizes to those journalists demonstrating the most courage and commitment to the highest level of journalism for the American people.

The Board members of this foundation, the news sources initiated by this foundation, and the journalists supported by this foundation, are to be prohibited from signing agreements with the FBI or its affiliate agencies.  That is to say, they should not turn into propaganda arms for those with totalitarian aims.

Awards for independent journalism are to be established for the highest level of reporting on environmental concerns, concerns regarding representative government and democracy, sovereignty concerns, voting concerns, impacts of international conflicts on the United States, human rights concerns, economic concerns, employment concerns, health concerns, utilities concerns including water and power, food supply concerns, science/technology/arts/academia/history concerns, concerns regarding local and federal law enforcement, judicial concerns, legislative concerns, AI policy and practice concerns, surveillance concerns, data center concerns, detention center concerns, privacy rights, private property rights, Constitutional rights, rights of members of the United States military and United States security agencies, the concerns of women, children, minorities and marginalized communities, the concerns of men, the experiences of the American people, and parallels between the American people's experiences and those of others around the world.

I would ask the Board of this foundation to consist of mid-career journalists with a substantive track record of independence, courage, and high standards in their reporting careers.

The press foundation is to meet all federal requirements for the expenditure of five percent or more of assets annually.

The foundation is to be assisted in investing the assets of the foundation in instruments/holdings that are robustly defended against inflation.

It is to have as its mission the vibrant and ongoing support of United States journalism of the highest ethics, integrity and significance to the American people.

Please endow this foundation with 500 billion dollars in order to ensure that this area, so critical to the sovereignty of the United States, be supported generously over time.
