My Third Novel's Conclusion, My Heartbreak

My heart begins to break when I think about completing this particular book -- because this narrative has sustained me like no other story I've known. It's both more personal and more universal than my other works. But beyond memory and archetype, it's a cri-de-coeur about needing to become the person one is destined to be. And in the writing, I have met my own life's work, my own fated journey -- having the sense all the while that the pages are suffused with a resonance, an energy, an electrified field that defies explanation. Writers hope and pray to be overtaken by a work in this way -- to be conscripted into passionate service of a profound story. To experience it even once in a lifetime seems a great privilege. I still have several months before this novel is complete, and this constitutes my reprieve. Because I'm not ready for the beauty to end.

An Open Letter to President Trump, February 9, 2025

An Open Letter to President Trump, February 9, 2025

Dear President Trump:

For security reasons, and in the larger interests of defending our nation from encroachment on individual sovereignty -- a threat which I believe you firmly oppose -- I respectfully request the honorable discharge of my sons xxxxxx xxxx xxxxxxxxxxx and xxxxxx xxxxx xxxxxxxxxxx, along with xxxx xxxxxxxx at this time.

Thank you very kindly for your principled leadership regarding this important matter.

Most sincerely,

Lane MacWilliams

An Open Letter to RFK, February 8, 2025

Secretary Kennedy, I believe your confirmation is assured at this time, so I extend your title of Secretary in advance celebration of your accomplishment.

I write to you now, Sir, to ask that you please restore my family of five to full and robust health at this time.  I ask this knowing that you bring great integrity and seriousness of purpose to your work, and feeling confident of your great love for this nation and those who stand courageously for Americans' freedoms.

Thank you for turning your attention to our request for your support.  While I know you have myriad initiatives on your plate, we have supported your nomination with the hope that you would insist on the full restoration of our health, and the fierce protection of our health going forward, as I believe President Trump has repeatedly done.

I deeply appreciate your intervention on our behalf.

Sincerely yours,

Lane MacWilliams
