My Third Novel's Conclusion, My Heartbreak

My heart begins to break when I think about completing this particular book -- because this narrative has sustained me like no other story I've known. It's both more personal and more universal than my other works. But beyond memory and archetype, it's a cri-de-coeur about needing to become the person one is destined to be. And in the writing, I have met my own life's work, my own fated journey -- having the sense all the while that the pages are suffused with a resonance, an energy, an electrified field that defies explanation. Writers hope and pray to be overtaken by a work in this way -- to be conscripted into passionate service of a profound story. To experience it even once in a lifetime seems a great privilege. I still have several months before this novel is complete, and this constitutes my reprieve. Because I'm not ready for the beauty to end.

An Open Letter to President Trump

President Trump, please cease and desist ordering my sons to lie about our family within false statements added to adjudication of my case pertaining to misconduct by the FBI.

Sir, such conduct, especially given the torture suffered by my sons and daughter-in-law at your authorization, will not excuse your attempts to misappropriate funds from the Foundation I have established for the preservation of United States sovereignty.

The freedom of the United States is not for sale, Sir.  Neither am I.

And your conduct toward my children cannot be excused in this instance.

The power of the Commander in Chief of the United States is considerable, but it can be withdrawn if the Congress loses faith in the ethical and moral compass by which our highest elected leader determines his choices for the nation.

The wealth of the United States Treasury is not intended to serve as the personal bank of a President who seeks to privatize vast sums for his own sequestration of power and influence.

Rather, it is meant to serve the freedom of our people and the sovereignty of our nation as a whole.

Accordingly, I ask that you immediately relinquish your wrongful claim on funds that are not yours, Sir.

Further, I ask that you withdraw your wrongful orders to my sons and daughter-in-law, and instead allow them the freedom that is their birthright.

My sons were raised to tell the truth, not to find themselves enslaved to an allegedly corrupt leader whose sovereignty has itself may have been irretrievably compromised.  Let them tell it, Sir.

Mr. President, none of us can avoid a confrontation with the truth of our conduct when it reflects ongoing, intentional, and predatory harm with an intent to profiteer from the suffering of innocents.

An elected leader, despite a vaunted title, is no exception.

The people vest the Presidency with its power, and, sufficiently betrayed, the people can withdraw that gift.

Mr. President, free my sons and daughter-in-law by giving them immediate and honorable discharge from all government programs.

And relinquish your claim on all funds belonging to the Foundation and related accounts.

Thank you for your cooperation with this most important requirement.

Sincerely,

Lane MacWilliams
