My Third Novel's Conclusion, My Heartbreak

My heart begins to break when I think about completing this particular book -- because this narrative has sustained me like no other story I've known. It's both more personal and more universal than my other works. But beyond memory and archetype, it's a cri-de-coeur about needing to become the person one is destined to be. And in the writing, I have met my own life's work, my own fated journey -- having the sense all the while that the pages are suffused with a resonance, an energy, an electrified field that defies explanation. Writers hope and pray to be overtaken by a work in this way -- to be conscripted into passionate service of a profound story. To experience it even once in a lifetime seems a great privilege. I still have several months before this novel is complete, and this constitutes my reprieve. Because I'm not ready for the beauty to end.

A Reply from El Camino Hospital

OIG Hotline, this progress is made possible because of you.

Your attention to this matter constitutes a great gift.

I would like to transform that gift into one that also helps to support the freedoms of other Americans.

Only then can this journey manifest its full potential.

In gratitude for your presence,

Lane MacWilliams

Re:  El Camino Hospital's Duty of Care

Hello Lane MacWilliams,

Thank you for writing Patient Experience.  We want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to share your concern regarding your son's recent experience at El Camino Health.  Your input is invaluable to us, as it allows us to continually improve the quality of care and services we provide.  We would also like to extend our deepest apologies for the experience your son encountered during his visit.

We would be grateful for the opportunity to discuss the patient's experience further and gain a deeper understanding of the specific issues you encountered.  Your insights are critical in helping us refine our processes and better serve our patients in the future.  We will document the patient's complain and share this with the appropriate department leadership.  But, we ar unable to discuss the care and/or treatment with anyone other than the patient due to privacy concerns.  We will need the patient to contact us to discuss their care and treatment.  As well as, any concerns the patient would like to share. (sic). We have provided Patient Experience contact information below.  Once again, please accept our deepest apologies, and we sincerely appreciate your trust and understanding as we work toward resolving this matter.

Thank you very much for your reply.  I aim Graham's Medical Power of Attorney, and I am authorized to communicate with you directly about his medical care.  Please see the attached POA documentation.

Graham, in a great deal of pain, was turned away from O'Connor Hospital's ER recently as a direct result of Dr. Srinivasan's radiology report, which was being quoted to use chapter and verse.  So, the deceit surrounding Graham's medical condition has been extremely damaging.  In truth, Graham's treatment has been so lacking in compassion, truthfulness, professionalism and ethics that he has begun to state his belief that the medical establishment has condemned him to die without care.  Having seen some particularly egregious abrogations of the duty of care, I can say that his perspective -- while deeply distressing to us as his family -- is understandable.

We believe that Graham has cholecystitis caused by Echinococcus multilocularis.  This infection was caused directly by the actions of FBI agent Txx Lxxxx, who directed the falsification of Graham's record, the denial of his diagnosis, and the failure of his treatment while at El Camino Hospital.

Graham should never have been discharged from the Hospital given his jaundice, his pain, and his unacknowledged gallbladder cysts.  Physicians' assertions that he was perfectly well as of June 13th represented knowing fraud and gravely endangered him.  And the statements that he would be forcibly moved to psychiatric care if he did not willingly leave the Hospital -- these were inexcusable.

I attach herewith Dr. Srinivassan's Radiology Report, which fails to mention Graham's three prominent gallbladder cysts anywhere.  I also attach photographs of Graham's gallbladder from the particular ultrasound study in question, with severe cystic pathology evident.

Right now, my son is dying because of FBI agent Txx Lxxxx' murderous and unrepentant acts toward him.  Graham has been denied appropriate follow up care, and so has our whole family.

I would respectfully suggest that El Camino arrange for abdominal ultrasounds for our whole family at UCSF on an urgent basis, along with immediate follow up care with a UCSF ID specialist (and any other needed specialists) who is extremely capable, honest and responsive.  All FBI/Infragard personnel and affiliates should refrain from having any communication whatsoever with UCSF and future health care providers concerning our family, our diagnosis, and our treatment.

I can continue to engage in written dialogue with El Camino concerning the problems that transpired during Graham's hospitalization at El Camino from June 10-13 and afterwards.  But I need to express to you that all of us have lost a critical month due to deceit on the part of El Camino staff, and I remain extremely concerned about how this could have transpired, given the ethical obligations of all involved.

Sincerely,

Lane MacWilliams
