My Third Novel's Conclusion, My Heartbreak

My heart begins to break when I think about completing this particular book -- because this narrative has sustained me like no other story I've known. It's both more personal and more universal than my other works. But beyond memory and archetype, it's a cri-de-coeur about needing to become the person one is destined to be. And in the writing, I have met my own life's work, my own fated journey -- having the sense all the while that the pages are suffused with a resonance, an energy, an electrified field that defies explanation. Writers hope and pray to be overtaken by a work in this way -- to be conscripted into passionate service of a profound story. To experience it even once in a lifetime seems a great privilege. I still have several months before this novel is complete, and this constitutes my reprieve. Because I'm not ready for the beauty to end.

When a Normal Phone Conversation Between Family Members Is Distorted By FBI Falsehoods

OIG Hotline, there is an allegation that a spurious investigation was initiated today on the basis of a perfectly normal phone call with my older son.  After this allegation, I emailed my son regarding the cogency, lawfulness and honor of our conversation.  I received only a texted response, as you can see below.

For the record, the "deal-making" in which my son is attempting to engage, below, is utterly unlike his natural personality.  He simply does not manipulate people in this manner.  While I am not certain of the earlier email to which he refers here, it seems that he is seeking a concession of some kind in return for telling the truth about our phone call.  I did not raise my sons to treat human interaction as opportunity for coercion.  Accordingly, the presence of his handler is everywhere present in this exchange.

I find it astonishing that I cannot express my love for my son in a simple phone call without having the matter misreported.

The FBI appears to feel that it is under time pressure of some kind, always a concerning factor regarding the predations of this agency.

Thank you for allowing me to extend this documentation to your Office.

Most sincerely,

Lane MacWilliams
