My Third Novel's Conclusion, My Heartbreak

My heart begins to break when I think about completing this particular book -- because this narrative has sustained me like no other story I've known. It's both more personal and more universal than my other works. But beyond memory and archetype, it's a cri-de-coeur about needing to become the person one is destined to be. And in the writing, I have met my own life's work, my own fated journey -- having the sense all the while that the pages are suffused with a resonance, an energy, an electrified field that defies explanation. Writers hope and pray to be overtaken by a work in this way -- to be conscripted into passionate service of a profound story. To experience it even once in a lifetime seems a great privilege. I still have several months before this novel is complete, and this constitutes my reprieve. Because I'm not ready for the beauty to end.

Upholding Our Greatest Potential

OIG Hotline, among many serious threats extended to me recently, the most concerning appears to articulate the FBI's ability to create falsified messaging or social media posts which appropriate my online identity, and which appear to threaten public elected officials, public figures who may play administrative roles concerning the "target of interest" program or the "Phoenix Program," FBI personnel, or others.

Clearly, in the event of such a threat to the public interest, the FBI is empowered to enter a civilian's residence forcibly and violently, if the agency so desires.

Accordingly, I wish to clarify that I have never threatened any public official, nor will I ever threaten any public official.

I have never threatened a member of the FBI, the CIA, the DoD, or any other agency, nor will I ever threaten a member of the FBI, the CIA, the DoD, or any other agency.

Further, I have threatened no private citizen, nor will I ever threaten any private citizen.

I am not signing onto any social media accounts whatsoever, and I do not intend to do so.  Any representation that I am utilizing social media accounts is false.

Further, I am not messaging, emailing or calling friends at this time, as I consider the risks to them --regarding likely pressure brought to bear by the FBI demanding falsified reporting  -- to be too great.

I believe in the rule of law and the peaceable progress of democratic society, which is to say that I believe in my neighbor's civil liberties and human rights -- even when they have failed in upholding mine.

Why do I feel so strongly about this?

Because everyone's freedoms depend upon our commitment to uphold one another's civil liberties and human rights.  Our democracy cannot endure without this generosity of spirit and civic engagement.

If there are those on the far right who fail to understand this most basic of precepts, at the very least I can model it for them.

I believe that the American public as a whole is compassionate, responsible, benevolent, fair-minded, honest, big-hearted and engaged.

My efforts are for them -- and for all those like them around the world who care about the self-determination, the free will, and the sovereignty of the individual that are inseparable from mankind's highest achievements and society's greatest potential.

I wish to continue writing affidavits for the OIG Hotline, and I do not believe that I or my family members should be shot, attacked, kidnapped, rendered ill, or killed because of my courage in doing so.

I believe that those who love democracy will agree with me.

I remain most sincerely yours,

Lane MacWilliams

The FBI is a deeply divided agency.  There are many FBI employees who view their vows to the Constitution with the utmost seriousness and honor, and who strive to defend the fundamentals of our democracy with courage, fortitude and commitment.  The fact that some segments of the FBI appear to have embraced a lawless course is not a justification to assail the FBI in general.  As President Joseph R. Biden has so rightly expressed, violence is never justified in any circumstance.  The rule of law must always be honored and upheld.  It is our shared determination to preserve the civil liberties and human rights of all Americans that renders the United States a democracy.  We must never abandon this promise.  All of our most cherished freedoms depend upon it.
