My Third Novel's Conclusion, My Heartbreak

My heart begins to break when I think about completing this particular book -- because this narrative has sustained me like no other story I've known. It's both more personal and more universal than my other works. But beyond memory and archetype, it's a cri-de-coeur about needing to become the person one is destined to be. And in the writing, I have met my own life's work, my own fated journey -- having the sense all the while that the pages are suffused with a resonance, an energy, an electrified field that defies explanation. Writers hope and pray to be overtaken by a work in this way -- to be conscripted into passionate service of a profound story. To experience it even once in a lifetime seems a great privilege. I still have several months before this novel is complete, and this constitutes my reprieve. Because I'm not ready for the beauty to end.

Vladimir Putin: The Madman in the Attic

There is a Phoenix Program assassin currently concealed within the attic of my Portola Valley home.

Remarkably, he is also an individual who claims "absolute power" as a leading figure in Russian-affiliated organized crime within the United States.

He has alleged that a Phoenix Program colleague waits concealed within the crawl space of our residence.

And there is evidence that he is not lying.

What is this experience akin to within my prior experience?

Nothing.  Nothing at all.

This circumstance is unprecedented in the sixty-one years of my beautiful, faithful, book-filled, abundant life, replete with family and friends.

It feels like a great shadow has settled underneath the rafters -- a malevolent void -- a black hole capable of causing immense havoc and destruction.

Yet, he carries the face and form of a man who has a name.

He describes himself as unstable, envious, predatory, violent, skilled, vicious, determined, cunning and resourceful.  He also describes himself as someone who will take my life if he can.

But if I have a madman affiliated with Russia concealed within my attic, America has a madman affiliated with Russia concealed within its metaphorical attic, too.

What do I mean by this assertion?

I mean, quite simply, that many of those who are perpetrating falsified law enforcement reporting for anti-democratic objectives within our democracy appear to be accepting payoffs from profits derived from Russian-affiliated organized crime.

Falsified witness statements are compensated by Infragard, yes -- and this system of payments draws from the national treasury.

But the police officers and sheriff's deputies who are compensated for falsified law enforcement in reporting are often also taking payoffs derived from human trafficking and drug trafficking proceeds affiliated with Russian organized crime within the United States.

And Russia is not our friend.

While Fox News continues to present Vladimir Putin as a sympathetic figure with patriotic ideals toward Ukraine and the rest of the world, Americans seem to have forgotten that he placed bounties on the lives of American servicemen and -women deployed to Afghanistan.

I have recently been informed that Vladimir Putin has placed a bounty on my life, too, and I am a law-abiding American civilian on U.S. soil.

As I have gotten closer to exposing Russia's scheme of destroying our country from within, the threats extended by corrupt far-right factions of the FBI have become yet more extreme.

  • the far right is threatening to direct a 9/11 type of event involving high-rises in Chicago.
  • the far right is threatening to "blow up a pipeline" and so to drive energy prices to skyrocket.
  • the far right is threatening to escalate the war in Israel to include the use of non-conventional weapons, just as it previously threatened to do in Ukraine.
  • the far right is threatening to deploy biological warfare to cause a deadly epidemic, compounding the losses we have already experienced from Covid.
  • the far right is threatening to cause EMP over North America, plunging some or all of American households into life disconnected from the power grid.
  • the far right is threatening to deploy a "dirty bomb" in San Francisco or another Democratic-leaning American city, causing massive radiation exposure to large numbers of Americans.
  • the far right is threatening to cause an international banking crisis, causing dramatic inflationary pressures on economies around the world.
  • the far right is threatening to disrupt the supply lines of global food distribution, beginning with the distribution of grain, to cause socio-political instability in a myriad of democratic nations.
Clearly, Vladimir Putin does not wish us well.

The question is, why is the American far right helping him?  Why are far right movements within other democratic societies helping him, too?

Does Christopher Wray feel comfortable in publicly explaining the actions of his agency in supporting Russia's totalitarian aims?

How about a few of the far right denizens of the DoD?  William Evanina?  Kash Patel?

How about Colonel Eric L. Simon?

Do any of these men feel comfortable in explaining why they have supported the harm of law-abiding American citizens?  What is their knowledge about the harm of law-abiding citizens of other nations?

Might we require that they testify publicly on these questions anyway?

When it comes to my own family's survival, the Russian-affiliated Phoenix assassins in my attic and basement need to be lawfully removed from my home, and this needs to happen as quickly as possible.

When it comes to democracy's survival, the Russian-affiliated far right needs to be lawfully removed from the attic of free nations, and this needs to happen without delay as well.

Vladimir Putin may hold monstrous ambitions of co-opting the governance of democratic nations through the reach of his far right "new world order."

But the whole world is responsible for telling him no.

And that means the FBI, the CIA, the NSA and the DoD need to tell him no as well.  Far right personnel within these agencies need to explain to us how and when they were persuaded to betray their vows to the Constitution, and they need to do so urgently.

Because I do not believe that Vladimir Putin, as the madman occupying the attic of the free world, should be allowed to remain concealed any longer.

The house built around democracy must be reclaimed.  All of it.  The attic.  The basement.  The soil beneath the foundation. And the sky above the rooftop.

If it is true that, as FDR asserted, the "truest sense of freedom cannot be bestowed, it must be achieved," then this is our turn to achieve it.  Together.  With a resolve that cannot stumble, falter or fail.

Pull out the flashlights and search every corner.

Democracy's house must once again be rendered whole and complete, in the sanctuary it was intended to be.
