My Third Novel's Conclusion, My Heartbreak

My heart begins to break when I think about completing this particular book -- because this narrative has sustained me like no other story I've known. It's both more personal and more universal than my other works. But beyond memory and archetype, it's a cri-de-coeur about needing to become the person one is destined to be. And in the writing, I have met my own life's work, my own fated journey -- having the sense all the while that the pages are suffused with a resonance, an energy, an electrified field that defies explanation. Writers hope and pray to be overtaken by a work in this way -- to be conscripted into passionate service of a profound story. To experience it even once in a lifetime seems a great privilege. I still have several months before this novel is complete, and this constitutes my reprieve. Because I'm not ready for the beauty to end.

Permissions Granted to the Investigations Division of the Office of the Inspector General Hotline

To the Office of the Inspector General Hotline, Investigations Division:

I wish to formally restate that, in the event of my disappearance, disability, or demise, I grant to the Investigations Division of the Office of the Inspector General Hotline of the U.S. Department of Justice my full permission to render available to the American public any material with which I have directly provided your Office or the Office of Information Policy, or any material I have set aside for your Office within my files in my home.

One always hopes that such permissions will be unnecessary.  However, it seems wise to take this moment to clarify that, should any of the aforementioned adverse events occur, I place my full confidence in your judgement in determining what material to make available to the American electorate in the effort to illuminate the "insider threat" represented by the far right's engagement in falsified law enforcement reporting within the FBI and within law enforcement at the local level.

As part of this permission, should I be unable to make these determinations on my own due to my disappearance, disability, or demise, I specifically grant to your Office my permission for you to remove the confidential status of all materials which I have provided to you, with the following exceptions:

1.  protected health information pertaining to my family members, should they be living and capable of determining their own confidentiality preferences

2.  protected information concerning any professional colleagues of my family members, should my family members be living and capable of determining their own confidentiality preferences

In every case, I would request that your Office demonstrate a predisposition to "name the names" of those I have discussed within my notarized affidavits, in addition to all of my correspondence with your Office and the OIP which I have not yet had the opportunity to notarize.

Physicians and other medical professionals, lawyers, accountants, process servers, Superior Court clerks, banks, boat yards, neighbors, handymen, plumbers, judges, trainers  -- everyone who has participated in the far right's corrupt system of falsified law enforcement reporting under threat and/or in receipt of remuneration from the FBI in this case -- should be named publicly in an effort to illuminate how autocratic systems can advance without the broader public's awareness or consent.

Those FBI agents who have threatened my family members, friends, and acquaintances -- only one of whom I have identified on this blog -- should be named for the American public in a manner that allows the public to comprehend the deep betrayal of the Constitution which the far right has systematically perpetrated against law-abiding American citizens.

My family members, should they be living, should be strongly encouraged to grant waivers of confidentiality of their own, thus allowing the public to gain a more complete view of the far right's assaults against law-abiding American families in their totality.

Should my immediate family members not be living, for the purposes of this legal document, they should be assumed to have predeceased me.  In that eventuality, all confidentiality classifications on materials I have provided to you are to be removed, without exception.

My intent in clarifying these provisions at this time is to ensure that the American people have the opportunity to understand the methods currently being employed by far right FBI personnel and affiliates to gain economic and social control over the American public, in clear and present violation of fundamental Constitutional guarantees of Americans' cherished civil liberties.

Our freedoms can only survive the far right's "insider threat" to our democracy if the American electorate is awakened to the perils of autocratic governance, manifested in secret, in the name of the "national security interest."

In truth, our nation is most secure if we, the electorate, demonstrate great courage and generosity of spirit in preserving the civil liberties and human rights of one another, even when our defense of one another's rights places us at risk.

Our democracy is predicated on our commitment to the truth, on our benevolent commitment to care about the rights of other Americans to self-determination, on our compassion in strengthening the bonds of fellowship with our neighbors and friends, and on our integrity in holding to principled, lawful, civil discourse when we disagree.

Beyond all of these necessities, our democracy is dependent upon the soul of the nation as one committed to abundant goodwill, human kindness, virtuous effort, honest engagement, and justice tempered with mercy.

No one can diminish America's soul without the electorate's consent.

Somehow, I don't believe that the American electorate, once fully informed, will be willing to acquiesce to the far right's designs of harm against the innocent souls among us.

These permissions are granted of my own free will and accord.

I hereby certify that the foregoing is true and correct.

The FBI is a deeply divided agency.  There are many FBI employees who view their vows to the Constitution with the utmost seriousness and honor, and who strive to defend the fundamentals of our democracy with courage, fortitude and commitment.  The fact that some segments of the FBI appear to have embraced a lawless course is not a justification to assail the FBI in general.  As President Joseph R. Biden has so rightly expressed, violence is never justified in any circumstance.  The rule of law must always be honored and upheld.  It is our shared determination to preserve the civil liberties and human rights of all Americans that renders the United States a democracy.  We must never abandon this promise. All of our most cherished freedoms depend upon it.
