My Third Novel's Conclusion, My Heartbreak

My heart begins to break when I think about completing this particular book -- because this narrative has sustained me like no other story I've known. It's both more personal and more universal than my other works. But beyond memory and archetype, it's a cri-de-coeur about needing to become the person one is destined to be. And in the writing, I have met my own life's work, my own fated journey -- having the sense all the while that the pages are suffused with a resonance, an energy, an electrified field that defies explanation. Writers hope and pray to be overtaken by a work in this way -- to be conscripted into passionate service of a profound story. To experience it even once in a lifetime seems a great privilege. I still have several months before this novel is complete, and this constitutes my reprieve. Because I'm not ready for the beauty to end.

Update: 20 Questions for San Mateo County Sheriff's Deputy Rick Chaput

Update:  These questions were faxed to the OIG Hotline Investigations Division (202) 616-9881 at 10:30 a.m. this morning by Ken MacWilliams on Lane MacWilliams' behalf.  I am being prevented from uploading proof of that successful transmission on this site at this time.  As a result, these questions have been reposted on my Facebook page, Lane von Herzen, under publicly accessible material.

San Mateo County Sheriff's Deputy Rick Chaput has engaged in knowingly falsified law enforcement reporting toward me.

While I am not in a position to ask him questions about his commission of this crime, following herewith are the questions I would like for some brilliant investigator to extend to this wayward officer of the law:

1.  How many stalking reports from women have you documented and investigated since January 1, 2015?

2.  Have any of these reports involved different women claiming that they are being stalked by the same stalker?

3.  Have any of these reports involved alleged stalkers who are paid informants of the FBI?

4.  Have any of these reports, as you have written them, alleged mental instability or incoherence on the part of the victim?

5.  How many of these reports utilize redundant, repetitive language in alleging mental instability or incoherence on the part of the victim?

6.  Do some of these reports appear to "plagiarize" one another?  That is to say, do whole segments from certain stalking victim's reports reappear in distinct stalking victim's reports?

7. How many of these stalking victims did you refer to Adult Protective Services without telling them?

8.  When you refer a stalking victim to Adult Protective Services, does this mean that you are justifying surveillance of this victim to any degree?

9.  If so, what is entailed in that surveillance?

10.  How many of your investigations relating to the claims of stalking victims implicated the victims of sexual promiscuity?

11.  How many of your investigations implicating stalking victims of mental instability or sexual promiscuity were distributed through federal information-sharing programs HSIN, N-DEx, or LEEP?

12.  How many stalking victims reporting to you later became "targets of interest" for the FBI?

13.  When you falsify a victim's stalking report, leading her to be added to the FBI's "target of interest" list later through additional falsified law enforcement reporting, are you compensated?  In what manner?

14.  I find it interesting that, in your falsified report, you repeatedly state that I possess no evidence of being stalked.  But in person during our conversation, with my husband present, you repeatedly urged me to file a restraining order against my stalker, due to the fact that, according to you, the court would recognize my "evidence".  Which of these represents a calculated lie?

15.  What other types of law-enforcement reporting are currently being falsified by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, and with what objective?

16.  When the FBI is engaged as a "law enforcement partner" regarding someone who has become a "target of interest" despite being a law-abiding American citizen, is the FBI making note anywhere of the "target's" voting record?

17.  Do you at any point have access to the political affiliations of the stalking victims whom your falsified law enforcement reporting has implicated of mental instability or sexual promiscuity?

18.  Are these affiliations noted either explicitly or by code on reports complied within the Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting Initiative, HSIN, N-DEx, and/or LEEP?  Where and how are they noted?

19.  You allegedly commenced a health-related leave at the same time that your partner left the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office to become a police officer in Redwood City -- a much less attractive and more dangerous assignment.  In truth, were there disciplinary actions that the Sheriff's Office undertook toward the two of you, involving a suspension of your work as law enforcement officers for the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office?

20.  What was the basis of those disciplinary actions?
