My Third Novel's Conclusion, My Heartbreak

My heart begins to break when I think about completing this particular book -- because this narrative has sustained me like no other story I've known. It's both more personal and more universal than my other works. But beyond memory and archetype, it's a cri-de-coeur about needing to become the person one is destined to be. And in the writing, I have met my own life's work, my own fated journey -- having the sense all the while that the pages are suffused with a resonance, an energy, an electrified field that defies explanation. Writers hope and pray to be overtaken by a work in this way -- to be conscripted into passionate service of a profound story. To experience it even once in a lifetime seems a great privilege. I still have several months before this novel is complete, and this constitutes my reprieve. Because I'm not ready for the beauty to end.

When the FBI Doubles Down on Defamation of Whistleblowers

 1.  What is the most challenging part about realizing that the FBI is engaged in slander and defamation, among other assaults, toward law-abiding American citizens?

Answer:  The most challenging thing is the fact that, even when these segments of the agency are caught in their lies, they don't feel compelled to stop lying.  In fact, if they believe a whistleblower might reveal their crimes against law-abiding Americans, they double down.  The disinformation is produced more quickly and more determinedly.  These people want to protect the way they are viewed by the public at large.  They are not accustomed to being held accountable.

2.  Far right segments of the FBI have probably been engaged in some degree of creating disinformation, even within our own country, for a long time.  What has changed?

Answer:  Far right segments of the FBI are making a bid for totalitarian control of the social and economic progress of the United States.  Right now, it seems that the FBI has its hooks solidly attached to the Republican party.  The process of hollowing out the political middle in a bid for totalitarian control is one that has been "successfully" employed within many nations before now.  What's different at this point is that we're seeing the attempt being made domestically.

3.  Is that the reason why the FBI appears to view President Biden as such a threat to the agency's unconstitutional aims?

Answer:  President Biden represents a politically moderate President, so, yes.  He hews to the political middle, a fact which is much less conducive to autocracy. Totalitarianism can only thrive within a polarized electorate that is embracing extremist ideology and rhetoric.  By contrast, President Biden consistently seeks to unify Americans, to remind us of our shared values, to call out our commitment to our neighbors' constitutional rights alongside our own.

4.  What are your most pressing concerns?

Answer:  The FBI has lied to Congress, the DOJ, and our Commander-in-Chief concerning its engagement in knowingly falsified law enforcement reporting for anti-democratic objectives.  The agency's "target of interest" program is, so I am told, over-filled with law-abiding Democrats and journalists.  My immediate concerns relate to the FBI's aggressive and often convincing efforts to discredit the whistleblowers of the agency's malfeasance.  Again, far right segments of the FBI are fiercely determined not to be held accountable for their misconduct.  And that leaves the American public is an extremely vulnerable position.

5.  Why?

Answer:  Because most people are easily led.  If the FBI is capable of producing AI-generated videos co-opting the likeness of "targets of interest" in order to prey upon law-abiding members of the American public by shaping public opinion, we have an extremely serious problem that must be urgently addressed.

6.  Normally, that could be addressed through Freedom of Information Act requests to the FBI.

Answer:  But not if the FBI has dismantled FOIA for all law-abiding "targets of interest," whose FOIA requests are answered most often with blank reports.

7.  Your own FOIA request to the FBI was unlawfully redacted.

Answer:  Yes, it was.  The FBI knows it is lying about law-abiding American citizens.  It seems incapable of owning up to that fact through the preservation of the Freedom of Information Act.  This intransigence is a large part of what has imperiled our democracy.

8.  What is the solution to the lies the far right segments of the FBI are telling by utilizing the excuse of the "national security interest"?

Answer:  The FBI needs to be held to a full legal and public accounting of its conduct toward law-abiding American citizens whom it has wrongfully designated as "targets of interest."  FOIA should be applied to the FBI with renewed rigor by an outside supervisory agency or investigative commission.  Americans need to understand the fact that the FBI and its affiliates have undertaken a systematic program of falsified law-enforcement reporting for anti-democratic objectives.  The agency leadership should testify in open hearings about the choices that have led to this knowing subversion of the Constitution.

9.  Do you think such developments are possible?

Answer:  I wouldn't be taking the time to write these words if I didn't think they were possible.  We have a wonderful Commander-in-Chief in President Joseph R. Biden.  He and his administration possess the strength of character to insist that the truth of this matter be fully illuminated.

10.  You sound confident.

Answer:  I am confident.  The truth is on my side.

***********************************************************************************

At the end of my posts regarding the unlawful actions of far-right personnel within the FBI, I will be adding the following statement.  The FBI is a deeply divided agency.  There are many FBI employees who view their vows to the Constitution with the utmost seriousness and honor, and who strive to defend the fundamentals of our democracy with courage, fortitude and commitment.  The fact that some segments of the FBI appear to have embraced a lawless course is not a justification to assail the FBI in general.  The safety of FBI agents should be protected, just as the safety of the American citizenry should be protected.  As President Joseph R. Biden has so rightly expressed, violence is never justified in any circumstance.  The rule of law must always be honored and upheld.  It is our shared determination to preserve the civil liberties and human rights of ALL AMERICANS that renders the United States a democracy.  We must never abandon this promise.  All of our most cherished freedoms depend upon it.
